DIRECTORS
 
Martha McMurry Martha Dilworth McMurry, CPA, graduated magna cum laude from Duke University with degrees in Public Policy and Management Science. After five tax seasons with Ernst & Young and a short partnership with a local CPA firm, she founded McMurry & Company, PC in 1983. Martha’s areas of interest include structuring business entities and transactions, business tax planning and preparation, and complex financial reporting issues. Footnotes and financial statements that she has drafted for clients have been selected for inclusion in PPC’s Guide to Preparing Financial Statements Trends volume on five occasions. She is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.
 
TJ Newby Teresa J. “TJ” Newby, CPA, holds a BS degree in Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University. After working for ten years with a prominent regional firm, she founded Newby, Nunley & Hubbs, CPA’s, PC in 1988. She joined McMurry & Company in 1998. TJ has significant experience in construction, real estate, and professional service companies. Her current area of emphasis is in tax planning and compliance, particularly in the areas of trusts and estates. She is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.
 
Beth Witt Beth B. Witt joined McMurry & Company in 1991 after working as an accountant in private industry for 10 years. She is the manager of accounting and tax services to small businesses, specializing in partnership and corporate taxation. She is our resident expert on payroll tax, property tax, and local business tax related issues. She also prepares complex individual tax returns as well as QuickBooks ledger setup and analysis.
 
Ben McMurry Ben F. McMurry IV, CPA, graduated from Emory University, where he was an Emory Scholar, with a double major in Music and Accounting. He joined the firm in January 2002 after working several summers as an intern. Ben excels in highly complex spreadsheet design and QuickBooks ledger setup and analysis. He also has significant experience with the compilation and review of financial statements and business tax preparation. Ben focuses on the construction & real estate and restaurant & amusement industries. He also provides IRS and TDR audit examination support. Ben is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor® and is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.
 


STAFF
 
Rita Blair Rita L. Blair has been the voice of McMurry & Company since 2002. She greets everyone that walks in the door with her witty attitude and contagious smile. In addition to serving as receptionist, Rita handles various administrative duties for the firm.
 
Kathy Craft Kathy S. Craft has been McMurry & Company’s office manager since joining the firm in 1999. In addition to maintaining the firm’s internal accounting and billing systems, Kathy supervises cash management services for clients and prepares various business tax returns.
 
Elizabeth Gerkin S. Elizabeth Gerkin, CPA graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Business Administration. She joined McMurry & Company in 1985 while still in college. Elizabeth worked on audits, reviews and compilations becoming a senior staff accountant. She returned to McMurry & Company in January 2010 after spending 2 years as controller for a local non-profit college. Elizabeth is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.
 
Chrys Huston Chrys Huston joined McMurry & Company in January of 2005. She has been preparing tax returns for individuals since 1986. She has taught classes both to local firms and the I.R.S. in beginning and advanced individual tax preparation since 1994. Chrys is fluent in Spanish and specializes in tax preparation for Ministers. Her main focus is in individual tax preparation.
 
Robert McMurry Robert R. McMurry graduated from Carson Newman College in December of 2004 with a B.S. in computer information systems. Immediately after graduation, he joined the firm as a staff accountant. Robert excels in QuickBooks ledger setup and analysis, individual tax preparation, and computer systems support. His focus is on QuickBooks consulting and computer systems support, including the design and implementation of this website. Robert is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor®.
 
Dean Randolph Dean Randolph has been network administrator for McMurry & Company since July of 2001. He manages all design, implementation, and maintenance tasks for our network, as well as setting up and maintaining networks for many of our clients. His services include recommending and implementing backup and security solutions as well as application and e-mail server maintenance. When consulting, his focus is to design and implement right sized solutions for our clients computing needs. Dean is MCSE, MCP and A+ certified.
 
Amanda Street Amanda L. Street joined McMurry & Company in January of 2008 after working as an accountant in private industry for 10 years. She specializes in cost accounting in the manufacturing environment and has in-depth experience in both QuickBooks and Peachtree accounting systems. Her duties include individual and business tax preparation, including payroll and sales tax return preparation.
 
Diana Tonn Diana K. Tonn, CPA, holds a BA in Economics from Stanford University and a Masters of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University. After three years as a staff accountant in the audit and tax departments with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Chicago, she joined McMurry & Company in 1983. Diana serves as individual tax manager for the Company, specializing in tax return preparation and tax planning for individuals, estates, and trusts. Diana is a member of the AICPA, the TSCPA, and the Illinois CPA Society.
 
Lizzie Tran Beth “Lizzie” Tran, CPA, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Business Administration. After five years in public accounting, she held financial positions in Knoxville/Knox County government and in the publishing industry before joining McMurry & Company in October 2007 as a senior staff accountant. Lizzie works with review and compilation of financial statements as well as business and individual tax preparation. Her focus is on nonprofit organizations and on construction and real estate related businesses.
 
Anne Emery Anne L. Emery, graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2003 with a BS in Communications. She has experience working with non-profit organizations and spent several years as an office manager and bookkeeper in the real estate and restaurant industries before joining the firm in June 2010. Anne’s responsibilities include cash management and bookkeeping services, payroll and sales tax return preparation, and individual tax return preparation.
